Dinosaurs at the Gate!

The postman just delivered four phone books to my, and everyone else's house in Greenwich. Mine went into the mixed paper bin. When was the last time you used a paper phonebook?

Better yet, when was the last time you used 4!

Ditto ... straight into recyling. A complete waste.

Why is it okay for the publisher of these books to litter our driveways? Especially since they seem to arrive in August, when lots of people are out of town, and on a day when it pours. What could be better than a soggy heap of phone books in front of a home to tell all the world that no one is around?

What's even worse is the "off-brand" phone books put out by independent publishers.

Worse still, who do you call to suspend or cancel these things? If you want a newspaper delivery suspended during your vacation, it's a pretty simple matter to reach the subscription department. These things are delivered anonymously and, as you say, alert every ne'er do well that you're out of town.
