Oh, Dear
posted by Amanda Von Stuckel
Back from lunch at Valebellas! and what a scene. What had been a lively, fun luncheon break descended into pandemonium when news hit that the bailout bill had flopped and the Dow was going down, down down. Dickie Fuld was the only one laughing - when your stock shares are trading at 30 cents, do you really care? Dickie doesn't, obviously.
Mel Gibson, just arrived from his spread at Malibu Colony, was eating with Ronnie Howard. Salad only for Mel - hope that was a non-alcoholic beer, buster - and a full 1 lb steak that only Manny V. can prepare so well, for Mr. Howard. Mel was going on and on, whining about being unable to sell his $35,000,000 hunk of plaster and timber on Old Mill Road, all while the real people of this town, the financial tycoons who have supported our charities, built our hospitals and made sure our private schools are the very, very best in the country were watching Bloomberg, mouths open, while their fortunes evaporated. I finally couldn't stand it any longer and I came over to Mel's table and shouted, "for cris'sake, Mel, get off the friggin' cross - we need the wood!"
Mel didn't think it was funny but Ronnie did. I do love that adorable little scamp!
More later,
Amanda

I might have to stop reading your blog if Ms.Von Stuckel continues to write stuff like this. Pretty soon she is going to tell us that she saw Kathy Lee at CVS. Some of us read your blog for real estate information not to find out what celebrities are doing.
I give For WHat it's worth a thumb down for the post.
I'm not sure which I get a bigger laugh out of, the post by Amanda or the comments.
Ignorance is bliss...
Real news at last on this silly blog. Congratulations!
Chris, I am at loss as to who is in your crosshairs with this Amanda bit. We all are generally aware of the Antares boys and your disdain for your former paper, but who are you aiming at with this time?
Cos Cobber
Antares is SO yesterday. So far as I know, Amanda's got no one in her cross-hairs, she's just trying to report on our local scene. I thik she's off to a great start.
Again, I can't tell if Von Stuck-up is joking or not but either way she is irritating and annoying. I just don't understand, is this Amanda your new alter-ego oir is she really a broker in town? What the hell is going on here?
And the comment about the cross is HIGHLY offensive. You owe people an apology. Really insensitive stuff. Think before you write anything.
Chris, get rid of this idiot Amanda or risk losing your readership. I think if you as a thoughtful, sarcastic, humorous, insightful blogger with some really interesting information on houses that most people are contnent to just drive by. Her comments are just plain stupid and really demean the conversations we have on your blog. The bit has to go.
Having gone back to your introduction of "Amanda" and your subsequent explanation, I now finally get it. "Nome de plume"? Give me a break Chris.
Opinion still stands, she sucks and must go. Bring Chris back.
As a side note, sometimes goo dideas go horribly wrong. "Amanda" seems like one of those things. The humor never really translated to the written word, "Amanda" would have been better kept in your fantasies.
I think the really funny part of this was that even though "Amanda" was so preposterous, most of us (your loyal readers) actually thought this was a real agent!!! It is funny that we are so de-sensitized to such ridiculous people that we actually bought into it for a while. I actually thought "Amanda" could have been at least three people I know in town!! Sad, funny and true all at the same time.
From a reader:
"Back when I was working retail, a store owner warned me never to employ satire with customers because no matter how obvious it was, too many of them would believe it. That seems to be the case with your Amanda and some of your readers!"
Chris, it seems you have been bitten by all the criticisms of your girl Amanda. Your last remark was, um...well very un-Chris. You usually strike back with some combo of wit, humor, sarcasm and cynicism.
So that you can better keep track of my comments to you, I will go by the "Nome de Plume" of Stanwich.
I will check back in the morning and hopefully you will have gotten over Amanda and posted something about a house, or some other tangible aspect of real estate.
Lova ya!
Stanwich
